Esther Pollard Endorse Shlomo Mostofsky For CIVIL Court Judge

Shlomo Mostofsky received the endorsement of Esther Pollard in his race for Civil Court Judge.

“I have known Shlomo for many years through his participation in the struggle for justice for my husband, Jonathan, who is serving an unjust life sentence,” said Esther Pollard. “Shlomo has distinguished himself over the years as a conscientious individual, disciplined, responsible and possessed of a keen sense of justice. He is honest, reliable, and thoroughly devoted to seeking the truth and upholding it. He has all of the qualities and characteristics that will enable him to be an exemplary judge. I heartily recommend him for this position.”

Mr. Mostofsky has been at the forefront of the effort to free Jonathan Pollard for more than a decade. From his first visit to Mr. Pollard at the Butner Correctional Facility in 2003, he has vociferously protested Mr. Pollard’s life sentence for pleading guilty to one count of spying for Israel, a staunch ally of the United States. Mr. Mostofsky’s articles about Mr. Pollard’s plight helped kick-start the telephone campaign to the Bush White House that literally clogged the White House switchboard. When President Bush refused to grant Pollard clemency, Mr. Mostofsky asked his supporters to continue their efforts.

In 2003, the Washington D.C. District Court granted Pollard a hearing to review procedural issues in his case. Of course Mr. Pollard’s application, as the many that preceded it, was denied. A naval intelligence representative regularly sits in on visits with Mr. Pollard. Mr. Mostofsky once asked this individual to what he attributed Pollard’s ability to maintain his positive attitude and belief that some day he will be released. He answered, “his wife Esther.” Recently, former CIA Director James Woolsey and former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger have joined many foreign policy experts in urging President Obama to grant Jonathan Pollard clemency.

“Jonathan and Esther Pollard have been the victims of a justice system run-amok,” said Shlomo Mostofsky. “If I am elected I will continue to think of Jonathan to remind me that justice must be even-handed and fair.”
