The school system in Betar Illit opened this week as it did in other chareidi communities. In Betar, 100 new classrooms have been added to the education system to serve over 20,000 talmidim in 840 classrooms, HaMevaser reports. This includes 615 classrooms and 225 kindergartens. Over 1,800 children have joined the kindergarten system this year, referring to 3-year-olds as 1,850 kindergarten students moved into first grade classrooms.
There are a total of 5,600 children in the city’s various kindergartens, representing close to a third of the overall education system population. There are 21 yeshivos ketanos in addition to seminaries serving hundreds of young ladies.
The caravan classrooms used located on Bal HaTanya, Breslov and Kaf HaChaim Streets have been removed, replaced Baruch Hashem by legitimate classrooms. Mayor Rabbi Meir Rubinstein explains that last year, an emphasis was placed on building new classrooms towards accommodating the rapidly-growing population of students. Rubinstein was gratified over the news that many caravan classrooms were cleared away after new buildings were constructed to provide students with a proper learning environment.
