The office of Assemblywoman Weinstein has been informed that, in order to reduce mosquito activity and the risk of West Nile virus, the NYC Department of Health will spray pesticide from trucks in parts of Brooklyn on Thursday, August 23, between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. The neighborhoods to receive treatment are: Parts of Canarsie, East Flatbush, Flatlands, Georgetown, Marine Park, Mills Island, Mills Basin, Paerdegat Basin, Spring Creek and Starrett City in the zipcodes 11207, 11208, 11210, 11229, 11234, 11236, and 11237.
Treatment is warranted in these neighborhoods due to rising West Nile virus activity with high and/or increasing mosquito populations. While the trucks outfitted with these sprayers will be using a very low concentration of pesticide, they ask that residents in the neighborhoods affected follow a few precautions:
