Five of the six people killed in the Burgas Airport terror attack last month were Israelis HY”D. The sixth was a local man, a bus driver.

Families of the victims are angry after learning they will not receive government funds to pay for attending the memorial ceremony and some explain they cannot afford the $700 ticket, so they will not be attending. Family members of the victims report that initially, the tickets were $1,000 but they now managed to get a discounted price, which some still cannot afford.

Some of the relatives, parents of the victims explain they simply do not have the money. One father was working on getting a loan when people stepped forward to assist. The families are turning to Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman to intervene towards obtaining government funding for families to attend the memorial in Bulgaria.

Maxim Fahima, whose son Daniel was seriously burned, cannot understand why they are being treated this way. Daniel remains in a burn unit in Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer Hospital. Maxim and others explain “these are victims of terrorism” and as a rule, the state does pick up the cost but in this case, no one seems interested in assisting them.

Foreign Ministry officials explain the event is a local memorial event, not a state event, and therefore, those wishing to take part must take care of the funding on their own since there is no connection to the State of Israel. Ministry officials believe the families simply did not understand as the Israeli ambassador informed them of the event so they believe it is an official state function.
