Maran Rav Kanievsky: Forbidden To Advertise In ‘HaPeles’

The machlokes that began in Bnei Brak does not appear to be ending any day soon as the new HaPeles newspaper continue publishing while most of the Litvish tzibur are refraining from recognizing the newspaper or advertising in it. The machlokes surrounds the shifting of power that resulted with the petira of Maran HaGaon HaRav Yosef Sholom Elyashiv ZT”L.

According to a Chadrei Chareidim report, Menachem Carmel of the “Bar Kol” supermarket chain continues to advertise in the HaPeles newspaper despite having been told not to. Gedolim feel the newspaper is acting in an unacceptable fashion regarding the gedolei torah and as such, advertising is not acceptable, stating HaGaon HaRav Chaim Kanievsky Shlita has informed Carmel that advertising in the newspaper is a transgression of ‘לא יהיה כקרח וכעדתו’ and it is tantamount of insulting talmidei chachamim.

As the advertisements in the newspaper from Carmel continue, Rav Kanievsky reportedly has instructed the tzibur to refrain from holding events in Heichal Malchus in Bnei Brak, which is owned by Carmel. The rav has indicated he will not attend simchas held in the hall with the exception of a chasenah today, 2 Rosh Chodesh Elul, which Rav Kanievsky already committed to attend the chupah. As such, Rav Yitzchok Shaul, a son of R’ Chaim canceled a chasenah of a child that was scheduled for Heichal Malchus. The same holds true for a son-in-law, Rav Braverman, who planned to make a chasenah in the hall in Cheshvan.
