Price Increase Will Eliminate Breakfast for 1,000s of Israeli Students

The increase in basic food items such as bread, milk and eggs will result in thousands of Israeli students not receiving breakfast. The לקט ישראל organization’s A Sandwich for Each Student project furnishes 7,500 sandwiches daily, serving students from development areas including Dimona and Akko. As a result of fiscal realities and price increases, that number is expected to drop to 5,000 all the while 2,500 additional students have been waiting to join the program.

113 schools nationwide are part of the program and for many students; these sandwiches are their only chance of receiving breakfast. Organizers of the program explain that donations are down and prices are climbing, placing their operation in jeopardy.

  1. no one in Israel will starve or do without breakfast, lunch, dinner, in between snacks, before meal snacks, after meal snacks or inbetween snack snacks.

Israelis do tooo good eating. Go into any makolet and see the crap (bislies and bambas, etc) that clutter up the stores and sell for much more than bread, which is supposed to be a staple food.

No one in Israel (TG) is starving today.
