Israeli blogger Tomer Avital is raising money, calling on the public to donate via Headstart in the hope of having ten Members of Knesset followed, including the head of the Yesh Atid party, MK Yair Lapid.
The campaign raised 65,000 shekels in a few days with the target being 88,000 shekels by Monday, 12 Tishrei. The goal is to have the ten MKs followed by professionals; private detectives who will follow them during Knesset recess which ends in three weeks. This includes four from the coalition, four from the opposition and the others will be announced.
Avital explains this does not include those MKs who release their regular agendas to the public. He promises all of the money raised will be used to hire the private detectives and pay overhead. He estimates such surveillance will cost 4,000 to 9,000 shekels based on a number of criteria but it is believed the amount being raised will be sufficient.
Avital explains “Lapid was selected as one of the targets for being absent more than most others despite not holding any official position in the coalition and despite being fined by the Knesset Ethics Committee for unexplained unjustified absences. This year again he leads in absences. While he is paid to represent the people as a MK, there is a feeling all his time and effort is dedicated to running for Prime Minister”.
“Lapid was present in 2017 on the average of five hours weekly, with an absence rating six times this number” explains Avital, adding “I checked and revealed that contrary to claims, the number of committee discussions during the break is 5% of the number when there is no time off. Relative to the world, we are in a bad place, very bad when we weigh our size. In some countries one must fly to visit and remain in touch with voters so a long weekend makes sense”.

Nice idea. There was a time when those serving the community knew that G-D was watching them and behaved accordingly. I guess this will have to do until we can elect a better class of public servants.
