A local scandal in Elad has been stirring up a lot of attention. A young girl was denied entrance into a kindergarten run by the Litvish community in the city. To make matters more difficult, the girl’s older sister learns in the same kindergarten. The reason given by the kindergarten as to why the younger sibling was being refused is because her father, a former Kollel student, had to go out and find work due to financial necessity. Because he now works, his daughter is being refused entry to the kindergarten.
The father who works as a ticket monitor on a local transportation company in the city by the name of Kavim complained to city council members regarding the refusal. The council member who oversees the Litvish community and the kindergarten acceptance in the community is the same person in charge of helping Charedim find work in the city and helped him find this particular job with Kavim. According to reports in Israeli media, the council member has washed his hands of the affair and is not providing the family with any solution.
The father claims that as he is a member of the Litvish community, that his daughter should be allowed to enter the kindergarten. “My daughter is at home crying, day and night, we do not sleep anymore in our home because she is so upset.”
The city councilman’s office responded by saying that “we know of the situation but the father had not spoken to the council member in charge of the city’s education department.”
