The Beersheva District Court ruled that public schools in Eilat must accept children of foreigners living in the city. The court heard a petition filed on behalf of 15 children, who were compelled to learn in a segregated environment in Kibbutz Ayalot.
In recent years the city refused to accept the children in the school system and they were sent to learn in a separate setting. The petitioners filed with the court because they feel that option did not offer their children an acceptable level of education.
The court ruled the nation’s education law does not permit such discrimination and all children must be accepted regardless of the status of the children.
