Your theories, please.
September 15, 2017 1:46 pm at 1:46 pm #1364425iacisrmmaParticipantReb Shimon Bar Yochai asked why only one mouth? If one mouth speaks so much loshon harah why do you need a second one?
September 15, 2017 1:57 pm at 1:57 pm #1364423MenoParticipantSo we can hear in stereo, and thereby discern the direction from which sounds are coming.
Having two mouths would have no such benefit.
September 15, 2017 2:04 pm at 2:04 pm #1364438Yechi HamelechParticipantspeak less, listen more
September 15, 2017 2:04 pm at 2:04 pm #1364437Yechi HamelechParticipantso we can listen more than we can speak
September 15, 2017 2:05 pm at 2:05 pm #1364430馃憫RebYidd23ParticipantThe mouth is attached to a much larger organ system, so how would two mouths even work? Would they each get their own?

iacisrmma: You somewhat misquoted the yerushalmi, although the point is more or less the same.
RebYidd23: as usual I find that I strongly disagree with you. First off from the above Yerushalmi we clearly see that the idea can be entertained. Furthermore, what is so difficult to understand? There would be two mouths connected to one esophagus.September 15, 2017 4:39 pm at 4:39 pm #1364595馃憫RebYidd23ParticipantHow do you disagree with a question?
September 15, 2017 6:42 pm at 6:42 pm #1364791LightbriteParticipantAnd our two ears are located at opposite sides of our face, with one on our left side and another one on our right side, so maybe we need to listen with both binah and chochmah?
September 16, 2017 8:04 pm at 8:04 pm #1364805ImanonovParticipantThe Vilna Gaon (Mishle 11-2) says like Chochom in his comment above:

September 16, 2017 9:42 pm at 9:42 pm #1364845popa_bar_abbaParticipantI think we’ve done this particular naarishkeit before. It’s so you’ll know you need to talk twice as much Jay for it to even out.
September 17, 2017 1:36 pm at 1:36 pm #1365347TheFakeMavenParticipantImanonov: Or as Chazal have already stated in Avos: 诪诇讛 讘住诇注….
February 12, 2018 10:45 am at 10:45 am #1467302Reb EliezerParticipantThe Kotzker tells us that 讞专谞讛 is the same as 诇讞专谉 teaching us that we should hold back speaking as much as we can. Remember listen has the same letters as silent. A wild animal comes to the world when we don’t use our mouth properly. The Binah Leitim interprets coming to the world as the person speaking converts himself to a wild animal.
February 12, 2018 11:02 am at 11:02 am #1467315apushatayidParticipantAnimals too, have 2 ears, and one mouth.
February 12, 2018 11:32 am at 11:32 am #1467340Reb EliezerParticipantMaybe the reason is that a person doing this without a mind is like an animal. See Sefer Hachinuch 95, about sacrificing and animal for a chatos when done things unwittingly.
February 12, 2018 12:54 pm at 12:54 pm #1467359funnyboneParticipantWhy 10 fingers and 10 toes?
February 13, 2018 12:32 pm at 12:32 pm #1467818MDGParticipant“Why 10 fingers聽”
Two ears and one mouth so that you should listen twice as much as speak.
Ten fingers so that you should type 10 times as much as speak.
馃榿February 13, 2018 10:04 pm at 10:04 pm #1468869funnyboneParticipantLol, MDG.
February 13, 2018 11:25 pm at 11:25 pm #1468883yehudayonaParticipantIf we had two mouths, could one eat milchigs and the other fleishigs? How about conjoined twins?
