A college student from Texas believes he is lucky to be alive after a terrible crash. He was texting and driving when his truck flew off of a cliff.
Chance Bothe’s truck plunged off of a bridge and into a ravine. One of the last things he typed indicated what almost happened to him.
He wrote, “I need to quit texting, because I could die in a car accident.”
After the crash, Chance had a broken neck, a crushed face, a fractured skull, and traumatic brain injuries. Doctors had to bring him back to life three times . Now, 6 months later, he’s finally able to talk about what happened.
“They just need to understand, don’t do it. Don’t do it. It’s not worth losing your life,” he said. “I went to my grandmother’s funeral not long ago, and I kept thinking, it kept jumping into my head, I’m surprised that’s not me up in that casket. I came very close to that, to being gone forever.”
Chance’s father said, if he had a child just learning to drive, he would disable texting and Internet on their phone.
As of August 1st, drivers in Alabama will face a $25 fine the first time they are caught texting behind the wheel.

What does it take for us as Yidden to understand that texting and driving does not go hand in hand (no pun intended). The only thing our hands should be holding, is thethe steering wheel of the car/van/suv/bus/truck that we are driving. There have been too many incidents and stories of people involved Rachmono Litzlon in accidents. When we find out that they were texting and driving, what are we to say.Look at what K’vod Shomayim and Kiddush Hashem we all brought out by being at the Siyum Hashas and we thanked the workers of the Met Life Stadium and the Police that were just doing their jobs and they are all in aweand are still shocked how we acted and behaved as they have never seen anything like it in their lives. Let us do something right now, that can save lives….STOP TEXTING AND DRIVING!!!! If you must see who texted you and yo umust answer them, then go off to the side of the road. Have a wonderful simchadike Shabbos Nachamu.
What about $25 fine for texting during davining?
People should also stop texting during davening. A person who works a whole day and only has an hour or two to learn should turn off his phone during that time. It bothers me so much when I see these things.
