A Call to Minimize Bal Tashchis in Tel Aviv

Shuls in Tel Aviv are taking part in a campaign to increase awareness to limit bal tashchis (בל תשחית) in the city and to keep a cleaner city, the daily Yisrael HaYom reports. While separating trash is old hand in many areas of the United States, here in Israel it is not a law and rarely done. Tel Aviv City Hall officials working in concert with the Ministry of Environmental Affairs are working to increase the trend towards recycling those objects that can be reused.

Rabbis Yisrael Meir Lau and Moshe Maya signed a letter posted in city shuls urging mispallalim to take part in the program and thereby contributing to a cleaner city and minimizing בל תשחית.

  1. Its refreshing to see two gadolim such as Rav Lau and Maya, shlita, being so supportive of recycling and the mitzvah of tikun olam. Living in clean environment is not a issue of secular versus frum…its a priority for all yidden.
