First Brooklyn Baby Of 2008 Born To Frum Family

mmc.gifFrom News12: “Approximately 54 minutes after the ball dropped in Times Square on New Year’s Day, the first newborn was born in Brooklyn in 2008.

Chaim Mozes says his baby’s due date was Jan. 2. However, Mozes says he and his wife joked about their baby being born on New Year’s Day – never dreaming it would happen. Now, Mozes says he has a jump start on getting to know his son.

The boy was born at Maimonides Medical Center.

Mozes says he and his wife have a name picked out for their son, but Jewish tradition dictates they can’t share it with the world for eight days. The boy’s name will be announced at his bris.”

  1. Mazel Tov indeed. May they raise their son l’Torah, l’Chuppah, ul’Ma’asim Tovim, and bring him l’Briso shel Avraham Avinu b’zemano.

However, there is absolutely no significance to the January 1 date in Judaism.

  2. Interesting. However, they should only know that it really doesn’t men anything from a Jewish perspective. It’s a little sad these days, I feel, when people celebrate their goyishe birthday. Some of them can’t even rememeber what their hebrew birthdate is!

  3. Mazel Tov a’sach yiddeshe nachas
Too bad on the tax deduction. Nu, you can’t have everything.
You should be zoyche l’hachnisoi b’briso shel A”A B”IYTO UBIZMANO

  4. just wondering what signifigans for “shomrei torah umitzvos” to celebarate the first child born on christian new year.after all isn’t this “yeshivah” world..any non -jew out there,we not writing this out of malice(we’er sure non of whaterver denomination will not report with glee first chid born on jewish new year…

  5. poor guy.after you’re finished celebrating and you start your ’07 tax returns you’ll realize that an hour earlier and you’d have an extra $3800 tax credit in your pocket!
happened to me 5 years ago!

  6. well with the frum families giving birth every second, i’m surprised the new years millenium baby wasnt to a frum family.

  7. I am quit shocked at the importance attributed in publishing this piece to the goyishe new year. Why is a birth on a goyishe date of any relevance to yidden?

  8. ” the first newborn was born”

How do they know that this is the first baby of 2008???

I’m sure that somewhere in Africa or China a baby was born 5 minutes after 12:00!!!!!!!

3 cheers to post 13 for his spot on comment…

  9. I dont understand what the fuss is about! It just happens to be that at the start of the GOYISH new year a FRUM child was born.

WHEN one asks when you were born, how many of you immediately respond with the Jewish date? Why is this different?

  10. To # 14 , Very good, they ask your question, but if you take a closer look the article, (the headline in particular), mentions something about first baby being born in Brooklyn. I hope this will help you sleep better.
    All the best.

  11. To all you bright accountants out there posting on YW, it’s called an exemption not deduction. And by the way the amount is $3400 for 2007 not $3800. (plus child tax credits)

  12. Just curious, if a frum baby was born on Rosh Hashana night, would that have made the headline on YW ? I doubt it. So why all the attention for a goysher new year ?

  13. yipee kayei!!! did they get money? or something of that sort? if not its no big deal. not to knock ur simcha or anything but who really cares that it was born on new years. new years is a day for the umois haoilam to act hefker-one should not be proud of being born on such a day!!!!

  14. nitpickers – let’s take pleasure that someone has a simcha to celebrate!

mazel tov to the parents and the entire mishpocha!

re: all the “if a frum baby was born on Rosh Hashana would it be in YW” the answer is:

if you submit it to the simcha section, it will be posted.

  15. I think they get a nice amount of diapers etc. for being born first on Jan 1. That’s enough of a reason to celebrate.

  16. the reason people these days use there english bdays more is bec u can put a reminder in your phone to go off every year and there are only english dates in phones so putting in the hebrew date wouldnt really work-and people use their phones for e/t these days

  17. Rabbi Kaplan, a rosh Hayeshivah in Toronto was zoche to have ,if I am not mistaken twins or triplets on Jan 1 and were the first born in Toronto, Canada many years ago. THere was major “celebrating” in the media at the time.

The media makes the big deal and not us jews in North America. Rabbi Kaplan did not make any stupid comments like all of you and life goes on!

  18. whats everyones problem? mazel tov and finished who cares if its not the jewish date? are you people bored or something? i guess so

  19. I see that four people already beat me to it on the tax write off comment and while it must hurt to lose three and half grand by less than an hour, perhaps you could move to Minnesota for filing taxes. Minnesota is an hour earlier so it was actually still 2007 in Minnesota when the baby was born. Mazel Tov anyway, Yimalay Hashem chesroncha.

  20. So where does this famous yingele claim his diapers???? Are there any other free perks for having such yichus? We just want to wish a hearty mazel tov to Mr. and Mrs. Mozes upon the birth of their b’chor on Chof Gimel Teves! Yehei Ratzon Shetizku Ligadlo L’Torah, L’Chupah U L’Maasim Tovim!

  21. Can’t anyone of you guys just chill abit, who said anyone is celebrating the ‘coming of the 2008’ and if they are, by sleeping late, going to the 8:30 minyan and visiting the parents and grands, hip hip hurrary. You are allowed to grin or even smile and recite, MAZAL TOV, to the first born frum Bklyn yingel.

  22. musicoutlet, Rabbi Kaplan if i remember correctly had only one kid, got to meet Brian Mulruney (the then Canadian Prime Minister) and had a big toeles at the time because he was able to get the PM’s help in getting his Yeshiva accredited.
( an interesting aside, they wanted the entire family to go down to ottawa but when they found out there were a dozen of them, they said why dont you just go down you, your wife and the baby) oh and the baby was born on JULY 1 (Canada Day)

  23. sadly, one must know their english b-day even more than the yiddish, sinbce everything goes by the english dob. for example-birth certificate, social, any health questions, blah blah blah.
