Monday Morning News Briefs from Eretz Yisrael


The words “Moshe Silman”, the man who set himself ablaze at the motzei shabbos social justice protest in Tel Aviv were painted on the Ramat Gan office of Bituach Leumi during the night.

11:45: Israel Electric Company announces repairs completed in Gezer power station.

12:45: Israel Electric Company announces it is at level “orange” alert with less than 3% reserves, calling on Israelis to only use appliances absolutely necessary from noon to 17:00 and to set thermostats to 75F.

13:24: Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin announces that he will extend the current Knesset summer session until such time a new bill is passed into law replacing the Tal Law providing a bill has been drafted.

13:30: A man who tried to set himself on fire at Beersheva City Hall was apprehended in time by security personnel. The 47-year-old man was armed with a flammable liquid, explaining he cannot tolerate his bleak fiscal realities any longer. Welfare officials in the city report they are familiar with the man’s case.

14:05: Graffiti including “Kahane was right” and “Chagit you’re dead” was discovered near Jerusalem home of senior Peace Now activist Chagit Ofran.
