A heat wave is set to descend on the tri-state area Monday, the fourth of the summer so far.
It will be hot and muggy Monday, with the temperature rising to 93 degrees. The mercury will soar to 97 degrees Tuesday, blanketing the area in extreme heat.
It will remain hot Wednesday, with the temperature expected to be 93 degrees.
The heat wave will break on Thursday.
There’s a good chance of storms Sunday ahead of the heat. Not everyone will see rain, but storms could pop up anytime, especially in the evening. Storms may be locally strong to severe with heavy rain, lightning and hail.
Con Ed recommends customers use a fan instead of an air conditioner in a well-ventilated area when possible during a heat wave, and to lower thermostats to no lower than 78 degrees when using an air conditioner. Using a fan consumes 70 to 90 percent less electricity, and lowering the temperature on an air conditioner increases cooling cost by six percent for every degree below 78, the company says.
Customers should also turn off unused, non-essential applicances, use energy saver options where possible and use dishwashes and washing machines and dryers early in the morning or late at night.

It would be bad enough if you did it in private. However, making such a public statement of lack of cooperation which may cause others to adopt the same selfish & improper attitude is irresponsible and may I dare say,a Chilul Hashem.
Do you want to pay for Con Ed to build a grid that can handle peak periods which are for all intents and purposes rare?
We have had blackouts because of a grid overload. The effect is devastating and led to many heat related hospitalizations. Not to mention all the other negative aspects of a blackout.
