Minister of Science (HaBayit HaYehudi) Rabbi Professor Daniel Hershkowitz was a guest at a function in Gordon College in Haifa.
When asked to respond to the issue of “sharing the burden” the rav stated he feels that non-frum draft eligible teens should also have the option of not entering the IDF, permitting them the option of national service.
“Halacha states that females should not serve in the army. Halacha does not say anything specific about frum females, and therefore, I favor the option for all Jewish females. From my perspective, if non religious females do not wish to enter the IDF they should enter Sheirut Leumi”.
The minister told the audience that his daughters did not enter the military, but opted for national service.

Please stop calling him Rabbi, and I am not sure why he is quoted
He has no daas torah
I believe non-frum draft eligible teens already have the option of not-entering the IDF, just take a tour of North Tel-Aviv youth.
