Intelligence officials have uncovered a new al Qaeda plot to bomb a US passenger plane leading up to the London Olympics, according to Sunday Times of London.

Officials don’t know what airline or what city but reportedly the suspect was in the process of picking a target.

According to one London report, this specific terror group has tried and failed to attack Americans several times in the past.

The report states the terrorist group behind the plan is based in Yemen. It’s reportedly the same organization that attempted the 2009 Christmas Day underwear bombing of a Detroit bound plane.

“The last two or three close calls have come from Yemen,” said U.S. Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY).

Senator Schumer says its clear that the quote” nexus of terrorism” has shifted from Afghanistan and Pakistan to now Yemen.

However the suspect is not originally from Yemen.

The report says the potential bomber is Norwegian and a recent convert to Islam named Muslim Abu Abdurrahman who has no criminal record.

“Our intelligence is so much better than it has been and we are usually able to find the terrorists before they can do their dastardly deeds and let’s hope and pray that continues,” added Schumer.

Right now intelligence officials aren’t revealing anymore information like what airline or what city.

The London report says the suspect was in the process of picking his target and that the attack was supposed to happen around the time of the Olympics.

Counterterrorism expert William Vorlicek says while Americans should be on alert, it is still safe to fly.

“What the average American needs to realize, there are a lot of people working on this very, very hard to make sure we don’t have to worry about that,” said Vorlicek.

The Norwegian suspect has not been named or arrested. He is still believed to be in Yemen preparing his attack.

Reportedly Al Qaeda operatives have trained him on how to evade airport security.
