Protestors were outside the home of Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman explaining “instead of defending us, he imprisons out children”. In this case, the father explains that both the Magistrate and District courts released his son, but this was not good enough for Lieberman, who then had an administrative detention order issued.
The person in question was locked up without a trial and without being charged with a crime by the power of administrative orders, with the latter being a remnant of the British Mandate period. “This is a banana republic” explained the father, who added that while Lieberman is a settler like us “I cannot understand how he acts like this towards us”.
Baruch Marzel adds that after so many years of talking and portraying himself as being hard-lined and a right-winger, now that he is in office he is just the opposite. He also condemns imprisoning one who was released by the courts, questioning what type of democracy Israel has become.
The protestors vow to continue their actions until all administrative detainees are released from detention.
