Bloomberg Comes Out In Support Of Speed Cameras

There is a proposal up in Albany to add speed cameras to the red light cameras already monitoring many New York streets.

Now, there is no doubt whatsoever about where Mayor Michael Bloomberg stands on the growing movement, WCBS 880′s Rich Lamb reported.

“If we can find a ways to enforce the laws that were duly enacted by our Legislature without spending money on more personnel, why would we not want to do that?” Bloomberg told reporters. “If you don’t believe in the law, then try to get the law changed. But if the law is on the books, we should be enforcing it.”

Anyone caught by the speed cameras doing more than ten miles over the city’s 30 mile per hour limit would get a $50 dollar fine, but would not be assessed points on his or her license.
