VIDEO & PHOTOS: NYS Law Enforcement Pre Summer Conference in Goshen

[VIDEO & PHOTOS IN EXTENDED ARTICLE]

The population of Sullivan County will triple in the next couple of weeks as New York City residents, drive north to spend the summer months in the Catskills. There are enclaves in Orange, Ulster, Greene and Albany counties. Leaders of the religious community met in Goshen Thursday with sheriffs, state police and local law enforcement to discuss concerns relating to the influx of population.

Rabbi Abe Friedman coordinated the session with Orange County Sheriff Carl DuBois.“Everybody is here to achieve the same goal to make this society a safe one and secure their communities and work for the residents of the State of New York,” Friedman told MidHudsonNews.com.

DuBois’ concern is the large amounts of traffic that will be flowing through Orange County and people drive north to Sullivan, Greene and elsewhere.

“It’s just to facilitate the massive humanity from New York City. Being right outside New York City area up to the Catskills up towards the Albany area and back, and it’s usually on the weekends,” he said. “And we all know that when there is some critical incident on Route 17 or 87 the traffic is backed up. Hopefully we have all the surrounding agencies involved and it will facilitate clearing those incidents. We’re hoping for no incidents, but you know it will happen.”
