A Jerusalem police spokesman reports a 6-day closure order was issued for a business selling alcohol to a minor in the city center.
Since the beginning of the year, the police have conducted 17 hearings for businesses in Jerusalem in connection with the sale of alcohol to minors and other criminal offenses.
In preparation for the summer vacation, the Israel Police is increasing its enforcement regarding the sale of alcohol to minors and selling to anyone beyond the hours defined by law.
Enforcement is carried out in a planned operational activity carried out by the police both in the open and in secret, and its purpose is to locate, investigate, and prosecute those who violate the law.
It is added that in May, in an operational activity designed to locate businesses that sell alcohol to minors or beyond the hours defined by law, police documented a store in the city center that sold alcohol to a minor illegally and without being required to present an ID, also contrary to the law.
The owner of the business, was summoned for questioning and hearing before a police officer at the Lev HaBira station regarding the illegal sale of alcohol to a minor, during which it emerged that in May last year, the business owner received a warning for the same offense.
Upon the conclusion of the investigation and the hearing, the business owner was given an order to close immediately for 6 days beginning 27 Sivan.
In the appeal filed by the business owner in court against the order lawfully issued by the police, the judge rejected his arguments and determined that the closure order issued by the police would remain in place.

I remember when Israelis hardly ever drank strong drinks and we sent our kids to the makolet to by groceries and that included wine and there was never a problem with kids buying wine for the house.
But things have changed…..
According to wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legal_drinking_age), in Israel “Since 10 January 2010, it is illegal to “sell, serve, or offer” any form of distilled alcohol to those under the age of 18 or any alcoholic drink to those under 16. So fermented drinks like beer or wine are permitted above 16.”
The community where you sent your child to the Makolet is probably not in the same area where Israelis are drinking alcohol. Probably the community where you lived they still don’t drink alcohol because they are frum people and it’s not so “in style” to walk around intoxicated. Unfortunately there are many places all over the country where alcohol is drunk.
