Jordan and Saudi Arabia have already shut the offices of Al-Jazeera, part of the Arab boycott against Qatar. On Monday, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu conferred with the Government Press Office, Foreign Minister, Shin Bet and others as they probe the ramifications of possibly following suit.
Al-Jazeera’s coverage of Israel over the years has not been favorable, but officials nevertheless feel shutting a media station may have negative ramifications. Ynet reports that Al-Jazeera in Israel employees 34 people, most Israeli Arab citizens. Ynet adds Al-Jazeera is expected to petition the Supreme Court against such a move.
