NYPD Names New Director of Intelligence

The New York City Police Department has named a new director of intelligence.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly announced the appointment of Rebecca Weiner on Thursday.

The 35-year-old Harvard Law School graduate replaces Mitch Silber, who left to join a private consulting company.

Silber was a chief architect of the NYPD’s aggressive intelligence-gathering program. The department claims the effort has helped identify and thwart numerous terror threats.

Weiner joined the NYPD in 2006 and served as the department’s Intelligence Division’s legal counsel and as team leader for Middle East and North African-security related issues.
