Israel Police officials have already announced they will not object to the early release from prison of former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, whose request comes before a parole board later this month.
The State Prosecutor however is not as forgiving as police, and it says it will object to his early release on good behavior. The State Prosecutor feels that since Olmert’s attorney was apprehended smuggling documents for him, he should not be permitted to benefit from early release for good behavior, even if his actions were not criminal, as he still was in violation of prison regulations.
The former Prime Minister is serving 27 months in Massiyahu Prison after being convicted of several white-collar crimes including bribery. He is scheduled for release from prison in the summer of 2018 if not granted an early release by a parole board.
