According to reports, buses that are used to transport children to the nation’s public schools will be used to take mispallalim to and from Meron and not the schools.
The problem began this year when Education Minister Naftali Bennet announced Lag B’Omer vacation would be pushed off a day, in compliance with a request from the Chief Rabbinate.
Egged then announced there would be about 20% fewer buses than in past years since many buses have to transport children and therefore, they cannot be placed on the Meron route. Dror Gonen, who is in charge of public transportation in the Ministry of Transportation told Kol Berama Radio host Noam Zeigman the matter is not in the ministry’s control since it was created by the Education Ministry. He directs officials to that ministry to propose a solution, adding the Lag B’Omer event is the single largest annual event in Israel involving transportation.
