Eight Arab terrorists were killed and at least 10 were wounded as the IDF moved into the southern Gaza Strip in the biggest operation since Hamas forces took control of The Strip in June.
IDF troops on tanks, bulldozers, and armored vehicles – backed by IAF helicopters, and fighter-jets were about 2 kilometers deep inside southern Gaza, on the main road between the towns of Khan Yunis and Rafah.
The Jerusalem Post reports that an approximate 60 terrorists were arrested in house-to-house arrest raids.
Four IDF soldiers were also reported to have been lightly wounded after an anti-tank missile was fired at their vehicle. Haaretz reports that they were evacuated to Soroka Medical Center in Be’er Sheva.
An army spokesman told Haaretz that “the operation focused on an area that is a main launching ground for rocket and mortar assaults on army bases and the Israeli-controlled Sufa crossing into Gaza,”
The Jerusalem Post quoted Ehud Barak as saying “the operation had achieved very important results in the fight against the manufacture and firing of Kassam rockets and mortar shells.”

Its about time Olmert has woken up from his Annapolis dreams. At first I supported the Gush Katif pullout as it offered a guarenteed Jewsih Majority in Israel Proper. However that should never risk the safety of our brothers and sisters on Sedorot etc. Its time to take the fight to the enemy. No land or peace deals unless all 3 soldiers are returned safely. Even the Holocaust denying Abu Mazen needs to be dealt with caution.
I’m glad they captured 60 terrorists – but have no fear they will be released very soon – as a goodwill gesture!!

For every 60 terrorists they “arrest”,they release 500.Some of the arrestees are the same ones who were previously released. Is this ‘merry-go-round’ ever going to stop with all terrorists dead or permanently behind prison bars?
