There are allegations floating that Egged has sold bulk tickets to one chassidus or another for Lag B’Omer, and as a result many going directly to Egged have been told there are no more tickets available.
Kol Berama Radio host Noam Zeigman on Monday morning 11 Iyar spoke with senior Egged official Amir Keinan, who stated emphatically that to the best of his knowledge, this is not the case and if he learns it is so, the Ministry of Transportation will be involved, and the tickets canceled.
Keinan explained that sale for Lag B’Omer began 10 days ahead via existing Egged bus stations that operate all year, as well as on line. This week, additional sales locations are added in chareidi areas to facilitate buying tickets. Keinan explains that this year, due to the Ministry of Education decision to push off Lag B’Omer vacation from Sunday to Monday, there is a shortage, about 15-20% fewer buses than last year, which is about 5,000 travelers.
Keinan is not throwing up his hands as he explains Egged continues contacting other companies and will be leasing as many buses as it can. He believes this will permit Egged to continue operating and hopefully, satisfy all those wishing to get to Meron on Lag B’Omer.
