Police say a Jewish Israeli was shot while attempting to to stab Israeli security forces at a Jerusalem area checkpoint.
The man approached the Hizme Checkpoint and tried to stab security forces on duty, according to police.
Israeli troops opened fire, neutralizing him before he was able to stab anyone.
He was transported to a hospital in critical condition and died shortly after.
An investigation is underway as to why the man did this. Suicide is being considered by investigators.
The north Jerusalem crossing is closed until further notice.
