Veteran Shas MK Yitzchak Vaknin recently told party officials that he wishes to step down after serving in Knesset for 16 years. This occurred during chol hamoed Pesach, Kikar Shabbat reports.
When Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef Shlita heard of his intentions, the rav summoned Vaknin and his wife to meet during yomtov. Rav Ovadia reportedly requested that Vaknin remain, explaining he continues to assist the tzibur and his talents are needed.
Vaknin has since confirmed that such a meeting did occur and that for now, he is continuing for he feels compelled to adhere to the words of Maran Rav Ovadia Shlita.
