Flatbush: Woman Assaulted On Friday Night On East 29 And Ave J

A woman was assaulted in Flatbush on Friday night, and Shomrim are asking the community to be aware of their surroundings.

At approximately 1:15AM on Friday night / Shabbos morning, a woman walking on East 29 Street between Avenue I and Avenue J was suddenly grabbed by an unknown male.

Thankfully, the woman screamed and fought off her attacker who fled towards Avenue J on foot.

The NYPD and Flatbush Shomrim were first contacted after Shabbos, giving the attacker precious time to make his getaway.

Shomrim have greatly assisted the NYPD by going house to house until they successfully retrieved security camera footage from a nearby house and gave the NYPD the footage.

This is the first crime of this type in the community in quite some time, and Shomrim are not trying to cause panic in the community, but feel that people should be aware of their surroundings at all time.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call Crime stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) and Flatbush Shomrim at 718-338-9797. The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime stoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.

  1. @torah4me- legal definition of assault
“assault (also called attempted battery) is a threat or physical act that creates a reasonable apprehension of imminent harmful or offensive contact, whereas battery is a physical act that results in that harmful or offensive contact.”
So she was definitely assaulted, and since she was grabbed too that would likely qualify as battery as well.

@Not getting involved- she was coming back from visiting a sick neighbor/relative. She was babysitting for someone who needed to go to the hospital or….. try to be דן לכף זכות for half a second.

  2. #3 Still she should not be walking alone at that hour. There are crazy people out there looking to do harm in the wee hours when people aren’t around. I would never let my wife or kids go out alone 1:15 AM.
