Are all men’s beards naturally curly?
Do men with straight hair have straight beards?
Do men brush their beards? Shampoo and condition them?
Do fathers teach their sons how to maintain a beard? Like learning how to tie a shoe but a decade or so later?
Thank you! 🙂
April 27, 2017 7:49 pm at 7:49 pm #1264911Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantOn a similar note, when men have curly payos is it because they curled them or is it natural?
I’m just curious because I thought I saw someone curling his peyos at the busstop the other day, and I wasn’t sure if that’s a common thing or just a nervous habit (like the way I play with my hair without thinking about it).

April 28, 2017 6:52 am at 6:52 am #1265042NechomahParticipantWell, I think curly peyos depends on a couple of things. First, if the man/boy has curly hair, then he will have curly peyos. How curly will depend on how curly his hair is. Now the perfect bottle curl that the chassidim wear is not so easy to come by and most of the time they will have to do what was suggested above and that is to get a “perm” to the peyos hairs.
As far as what LUL saw with a man curling his peyos, that is very often seen in chassidish neighborhoods since the men go to mikvah daily and will often spend much time doing this curling activity with their peyos to restore the shape and curl to them. If a man goes with “batteriot” as they call it here, the very tightly curled ones that go behind the ear (not to be mistaken with straight litvish peyos that also go behind the ear), then those can be arranged less frequently, twist tightly and put behind the ear. Gerrers often wear their peyos up under their kippahs.

April 28, 2017 11:01 am at 11:01 am #1265184MammeleParticipantStyling gel is often used to shape and maintain the curl for boys’ peyos, for those that don’t have natural curls. It’s a lot more common than having it permed. An old school option is to style it with “sugar water” or something similar.

Yuck
April 28, 2017 1:07 pm at 1:07 pm #1265288MammeleParticipantI think so too, but honestly it’s probably healthier to use than styling gel is. And I didn’t mention the other option I heard, IIRC, which is diluted apple juice…
I personally can’t stand the idea of using edibles in one’s hair, but is commercial junk we’ve been programmed to buy really a better option? And if they could get away using sugar as an ingredient, I’m sure they would.

Is no one else scared of hummingbird attacks?
April 28, 2017 4:26 pm at 4:26 pm #1265354👑RebYidd23ParticipantIt’s far older than hairgel, and more likely to attract insects than birds. Hummingbirds didn’t exist back in Europe.
