Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a week after being named among Time’s 100 most influential people, says he won’t fuel speculation that he might run for president in 2016.
The comment came in answer to reporters’ questions.
Cuomo joked that he’s seen that play before. He says that while it’s flattering, he doesn’t want speculation to become a distraction in his first term as he’s taking on major issues and pursuing bipartisanship.
Cuomo also says he’s unsure if he’ll be on the campaign trail for President Barack Obama nationally.
Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, New York’s top legislative Democrat, says Wednesday that former Sen. Hillary Clinton and Cuomo would each be strong candidates in 2016.
