Ammunition Hill Targeted in Vandalism Attack Ahead of Memorial Day

Vandals during the night targeted Jerusalem’s Ammunition Hill, the memorial site commemorating the battle to liberate Jerusalem from Jordanian occupation during the 1967 Six Day War. The damage to the site was located when officials arrived on Monday morning, 1 Iyar 5772.

The vandals spray painted graffiti on the war memorial, including “Gunter Grass was right” and “Zionism is the mother of all evil”. The rope on the flag pole was set ablaze as well, apparently in an effort to set the national flag ablaze.

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat ordered sanitation officials to clean up the damage immediately, in time for Memorial Day ceremonies. Police are investigating.
