“S” is a resident of eastern Jerusalem, a member of the capital’s Arab community, and an IDF soldier. When he comes home on leave he does not carry his weapon nor does he wear his uniform, but he arrives in plain clothes so his friends and neighbors believe he is studying somewhere in the center of the country.
“S” has been tapped as one of 120 soldiers who will receive a citation for excellence from President Shimon Peres on Independence Day.
The Givati Brigade soldier keeps his true life hidden from the community for obvious reasons. Where he comes from, serving in the IDF would be frowned upon to put it mildly.

I am sure there are other communities that are not ARAB that have to hide their IDF service as well.

Secular Muslims and Christians have very strong motivations for seeing Israel survive. If they woke up one day and were in a Muslim state, they would have to flee for their lives (ironically, the Hareidi community might not be worse off).
