Usually it is. It usually means that they are starting to identify more Jewishly and no longer want to be called by a goyish name. Unless you have reason to believe it’s coming from somewhere else (no idea what that can be, unless they are criminals and the law enforcement is after them and they are trying to hide their identity or something – but otherwise, I think that you can assume it’s a good sign.)
