Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef Shlita has come out against visiting Har HaBayis in response to a new effort to encourage Jews to visit the holy site. Rishon L’Tzion HaGaon HaRav Moshe Shlomo Amar has recently come out against strongly against visiting the holy site and Rav Yosef has joined the effort as well.

Rav Amar’s letter was released in Shevat, warning the tzibur of the seriousness of visiting Har HaBayis, reminding the general public this has been prohibited by gedolei hador shlita.

Rav Ovadia joined the effort this week as Temple Mount activists are working to encourage more and more people to visit and daven on Har HaBayis. Rav Ovadia received a first-hand report of the stepped-up effort underway to encourage people to visit Har HaBayis, apparently compelling him to affix his signature as well.
