A yeshiva bachur, a resident of Bnei Brak, was arrested in a European airport over Pesach. According to a Kikar Shabbat report, he remains in custody today, Tuesday, 25 Nissan 5772 despite efforts by askanim to obtain his release.
The report adds the askanim state the case is most serious, but not on the level of the bochrim from Japan. A chareidi European attorney has already been hired and he is on the case.
The askanim involved in the case are unwilling to release any details due to the sensitivity of the matter.

Its all over the press in israel
I am quite sure he was not smuggling gemorahs
At some point, just let these guys sit in jail and serve out their sentences. If we keep doing this “pidyon shivium” drill every time frum boys and girs are arrested for drugs, passport forgery or other crimes, others will simply repeat the crimes because they feel they will somehow get released if they are caught.
Maybe chometz 🙂
Stop! We have to stop this! Yidden now know that even if they get caught they will be able to have full “freedom of religion” – and essentially have a long Sabbatical sitting and learning, davening and becoming good Jews.
Some may even feel it was worth it. We have to stop this; if part of the punishment would be having to practice Judaism under restricted conditions (fasting since there’s no food), davening by heart since there are no Siddurim, learning by repeating the same few lines they have memorized – over and over again) then maybe we’d have fewer religious Jews in prison.
This morning I read more about this Bochur arrested in Europe; he sounded like he was on a camping trip; “the foods is OK, I get to speak home very day and have lots of visitors.”. And he knows that Askanim will be moving heaven and earth to get him out, despite knowing that he did something illegal.
Once we remove the deterrent, we are essentially creating a generation of criminals.
