Gabbaim: The Millions Went to Tzedaka

Mas Hachanasa, Israel’s Internal Revenue Service has announced that Rav Yekutiel Abuchatzera owes the government 9.5 million NIS in back taxes dating back to 2003-2009. Tax authorities add the rav has been most uncooperative.

Gabbaim to the rav explain “there is no truth to claims that the rav owes back taxes”, explaining the rav lives a very modest lifestyle and he is supported by the kehila for his simple needs. All the funds donated to the rav personally are transferred to mosdos tzedaka they explain, yet tax officials regard them as income despite the fact the rav does not keep anything for himself.

The gabbaim add tax officials are being most unreasonable, requesting statements from him documenting his assets back to when he was 12-years-old. The rav feels the sum demanded by tax authorities is absurd and he denies that he has been “uncooperative”.

  1. Here we go. The antireligious secular leftists in the Government are attempting to intimidate the religious community by cutting off the sources of their
Tzdaka income, which goes to alleviate the poverty and sickness of many needy people.

By undermining their independence and forcing them to beg for help from the leftists, they can control the religious community and force their agenda on them.

  2. 1. He should keep better records.

    2. Unless he is obviously living well, the government is probably doing this as a form of persecution. Given the one of the government’s goals, probably well ahead of anything to do with the goyim, is to oppose Torah, this seems typical.

    3. Given his surname, he’s obviously guilty of being a Sefardi, and probably gives money to Sefardim – which is at least an aggrevating circumstance in any case.
