A law enforcement official says that the killer in the Trayvon Martin case will be charged with second-degree murder and is in custody.
The official with knowledge of the case says that the charge against George Zimmerman will be announced at a news conference at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
The official says he’s in custody in Florida but wouldn’t say where. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to disclose the information.
An arrest had been delayed because of Florida’s so-called stand your ground law, which gives people wide latitude to claim self-defense in a killing and other altercations.
The lack of an arrest had sparked outrage and rallies for justice in the Orlando suburb and across the country.

Who gives a hoot that Zimmerman is innocent – It’s now a matter of self preservation! It’s now a choice between the decent law abiding “folks” of America or Zimmerman!
America is under attack by Al (I’ll do ANYTHING for publicity) Sharpton’s and Jesse (I’m the icon of morality – just don’t ask my secretary) Jackson who’s mob armies, of true racists and bigots are poised to swarm like destructive locust pillaging properties (not their own of course, just like locust) looting, destroying anything in their path; harming any law abiding citizen who dares to attempt to stop them . . . and ALL . . . .all, in the name of RIGHT and MORALITY!
Hey, face reality . . . unfortunately Zimmerman is to be a sacrificial lamb, offered for slaughter on the alter of the Gods of Politics, public popularity and mass hysteria!
So please be serious! What else is there to do? What? Stand up for Truth, Justice and the American way? Sorry, Superman is no more and our American leadership is bankrupt of his ideals!
Interestingly, after listening to the press confernce, it seems the prosecutors may have a tougher time getting a conviction because the burden of proof is greater with a second-degree charge than on manslaughter.
Now we can wait to hear the evidence on which the prosecutor determined that there is a prima facie case against Zimmerman, because if it turns out that there is none then he has a civil case for false arrest. Until we hear that evidence, we must doubt how good it could be.
They can press charges all they want. Lots of pressure on them to.
Just what will they do, drag the case on for a long time or what? Because if thye find it was self defense, then the black comunity will say not just George and the Police are racist, but the court too.
I hope these charges arent coming now, from weakness. Stad by your police that did not charge him when the shooting happened. Stand by them, when they say it was self defense.
The media coverage on this story has been disgusting. Where was the outrage when Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom were killed? This case is virtually unknown only because the national media refused to cover it.
What bothers me is that “black people” demanded for an arrest. I would have been okay with Zimmerman being arrested if it came from law enforcement. Yes, I know his father is a judge, that doesn’t bother me bc what father would not want to help out his son. I think Zimmerman will not be given a fair trial. If he is aquitted, there will be outraged. It makes me wonder if the Frum community should have shorim patrol?
I think the whole thing is a show by the state. they have no intention of putting him away for murder but they have to do something to put this issue to rest. They will put him on trial the prosecutor will purposely do a half baked attempt to convince the jury of the murder, the jury will acquit and end of story
Eric55 #7 I’m ok with diplomatic machinations, putting on a show to quiet rabble rousers, but at the expense (literal and figurative) of an individuals rights and freedom?! NO WAY is that justified!
#7, if that is the case then it’s a disgrace and utterly unconstitutional. Due process includes the right not to be put through the ordeal and expense of a trial unless there is a case to answer. So far it sounds like there is no such case.
I had hoped that this prosecutor would be honest, but any hope of that vanished when she went out of her way to thank the Martin family lawyers, who have behaved unethically throughout this affair, deliberately spreading lies and inflaming racial hatred. The fact that the Martin family gave a press conference together with Al Sharpton just proves what animals they are.
And then it was disgusting to hear Eric Holder praising Sharpton. Any person who can praise Sharpton is by definition unfit to hold public office.
Clearly we are going to have to pay very close attention to the speech of Mike Bloomberg delivered this afternoon in DC, demanding repealing these self defense laws. He is absolutely correct:- They are archaic and untenable.
remember: “truth, justice and the American way”? now it is “truth, justice OR the American way”! Obviously the Americans are afraid of the black backlash so as #1 rightly pointed out, Zimmermann will be the korban pesach to the American blacks. Pity.
