Israel Gearing Up for Operation ‘Welcome to Palestine’

April 15th is the day scheduled for the next international action against Israel, when so-called pro-Palestinian activists from Europe and elsewhere are planning to fly to Israel under the “Welcome to Palestine” banner.

Security officials fear after the estimated 1,000 or more activists land in Israel they will attempt to create disturbances to promote their cause. Officials have already announced the policy at Ben-Gurion International Airport is zero tolerance for any disorder and any attempt to break the law will be met with a prompt and appropriate response, no matter how many people are involved.

Officials also suspect many of the activists will attempt to reach PA (Palestinian Authority) autonomous areas throughout Yehuda and Shomron, where they will confront security forces in those areas. Media reports signal that many activists have arrived in Israel with their families, planning to take part in building the first international school in PA-occupied Beit Lechem.

Minister of Public Security Yitzchak Aharonovich is overseeing security forces and he has held numerous briefings with senior commanders from the various branches of the defense, security and intelligence communities.

In recent days, security forces have tagged people arriving who they believe are involved in the planned event and they are being prohibited from entering the country, turned around and sent back to their point of origin on the first available flight.

The minister released a statement to the media stating “We will act appropriately to prevent this latest provocation”.
