Often there is a Jus truck (Jus by Julie) parked at West 38th street and Broadway in Manhattan. It has an OU symbol on the truck.
Can that be kosher? I think they even serve things like veggy burgers and the person in the truck does not appear to be an Orthodox Jew.
The OU said they need a picture of it.
They are often parked near Broadways kosher meat restaurants and Bravo pizza and a kosher Japanese restaurant.
Can ANYONE with an eye phone or camera near this area PLEASE send a photo to the OU. (I dont happen to have an eye phone or camera)March 21, 2017 2:44 pm at 2:44 pm #1241079BenKParticipantCan someone please pass by and take a picture and forward to the OU. This is a Big Michshal (Stumbling block) to the public. It is not Kosher as it is an unsupervised mobile truck with just one non-Jewish appearing person inside making veggie burgers or the like. But the OU said they need a photo. May Jews pass here as it is right by Broadway kosher meat restaurants and Bravos kosher pizza. Someone please have this taken care of. I’ve seen some people innocently going to it

You’re right that it’s misleading for them to put an OU on their truck, but it may not be so simple to force them to remove it.
March 21, 2017 3:07 pm at 3:07 pm #1241090apushatayidParticipantJus by Julie claims to be an OU certified product. Problem is, those are prepackaged drinks, not freshly made sandwiches.
The OU is a pretty savvy social media company. Jus by Julie’s website spells out where their truck is as does their twitter feed and facebook page. Tell the OU to check out their website and social media profiles to get the location of the truck.
March 21, 2017 3:20 pm at 3:20 pm #1241095iacisrmmaParticipantSent the OU pictures from Twitter page.
March 21, 2017 3:38 pm at 3:38 pm #1241114BenKParticipantHowever the OU can send out an alert or on their site that the mobile truck is not certified for any food produced on it and maybe the restaurants in the area can be educated about it so they can let consumers know, whether they are asked or not. Their is also a Chabad truck nearby so they can also let people know.
March 21, 2017 5:45 pm at 5:45 pm #1241157popa_bar_abbaParticipantOU is not reliable.
March 22, 2017 10:08 pm at 10:08 pm #1242270alanm1211ParticipantHi, I am one of the owners of Jus By Julie. Please note that all Jus By Julie products bearing the OU symbol are certified kosher by the OU. We do not do any food preparation on the truck. The company is FFB (frum from birth) family owned , and run. All our food is prepared and cooked by fellow yiddin. Halavai that all restaurants or food establishments in our fellow neighborhoods followed the strict levels of Kashruth that we do. I even welcome anyone to come and see our operation for themselves , so they can pass the word to their friends. You should know that we spend hours each and several thousand dollars each week on several mashgichim who wash and check our lettuce and kale with a light box. I don’t think any one in the industry does what we do to uphold the same Kashruth level that we have. We take Kashruth very seriously and I am insulted to see the remarks of my fellow yiddin as we work very hard to bring the most kosher and healthiest products to our customers. Anyhow, enough said, I hope you can all enjoy our kosher food with peace of mind as there is no michshal here.
March 22, 2017 10:21 pm at 10:21 pm #1242286Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantPBA – I don’t think you are allowed to say things like that.
March 22, 2017 10:21 pm at 10:21 pm #1242288☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAlan, what’s the story with the truck? No veggie burgers? Everything sold is pre-sealed? Is it in fact certified?
March 23, 2017 9:27 am at 9:27 am #1242430alanm1211Participant@daasyochid- YES EVERY ITEM ON THE TRUCK IS PRODUCED IN OUR BROOKLYN FACTORY, IS BISHUL YISRAEL, AND HALAV YISRAEL. EVERYTHING WE SERVE IS ALL PACKAGED AND SEALED BY US AS WELL IN OUR FACILITY. NOTHING IS PREPARED ON THE TRUCK OR OFF PREMISES. PLEASE KINDLY GO TO THE OU WEBSITE, AND YOU WILL SEE THAT EVERY SINGLE ITEM, FROM OUR JUICES TO SOUPS, AND SALADS – YES THE VEGGIES BURGERS TOO, ARE ALL UNDER OU SUPERVISION. YOU CAN EAT WITH CONFIDENCE THAT YOUR FOOD WAS PREPARED BY A FELLOW YID. I WELCOME ANY MORE QUESTIONS……
March 23, 2017 9:30 am at 9:30 am #1242432MenoParticipantDon’t they serve hot soup?
March 23, 2017 9:44 am at 9:44 am #1242444alanm1211Participant@MENO- YES THE TRUCK SERVES HOT SOUP AS WELL- AGAIN THAT TOO IS PRECOOKED BY ONE OF OUR PLANTS (CERTIFIED BY OU) AND SEALED FOR PROTECTION. IT IS WARMED ON PREMISES BY A SHABBOS WARMING OVEN, IN ITS ORIGINAL PACKAGE AND IS NOT OPENED BY ANYONE EXCEPT THE CUSTOMER.
March 23, 2017 9:52 am at 9:52 am #1242454alanm1211ParticipantSORRY PLEASE ALLOW ME TO CORRECT MYSELF, THE TUNA ONLY IS NOT BISHUL YISRAEL.
March 23, 2017 9:56 am at 9:56 am #1242458☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThank you for that clarification. The OU’s policy follows a lenient opinion that canned tuna us not required to be bishul Yisroel, but many people are makpid.
Another question: is the OU aware that the truck has a visible OU symbol on it?
March 23, 2017 10:11 am at 10:11 am #1242465alanm1211ParticipantTHE TRUCK NO LONGER HAS A VISIBLE OU ON IT. IT MAY HAVE HAD ONE EARLIER, IN ERROR, BUT HAS BEEN ELIMINATED. THE TRUCK ITSELF IS NOT CERTIFIED BY THE OU, NEITHER IS ANY OF OUR 5 RETAIL LOCATIONS IN AND AROUND BROOKLYN GREEN POINT OR COBBLE HILL. HOWEVER ALL JUS BY JULIE PRODUCTS SOLD IN THE STORES ONLINE AND ON THE TRUCK, BEARING THE OU SYMBOL IS CERTIFIED BY THE OU. YOU CAN SEARCH THE OU WEBSITE FOR A LISTING OF ALL OUR OU PRODUCTS.
March 23, 2017 1:12 pm at 1:12 pm #1242670lesschumrasParticipantBenk, I have two questions : 1. What is so terrible about a veggie burger? 2. When will you issue an apology for having jumped to an obviously wrong accusation, potentially affecting their business?
March 23, 2017 1:27 pm at 1:27 pm #1242686MenoParticipantlesschumras,
What “obviously wrong accusation”?
If he in fact saw an OU on the truck, then there was nothing wrong with what he said.

I was only going to add that this thread probably will do more for their business than less.March 23, 2017 1:42 pm at 1:42 pm #1242701MenoParticipantthis thread probably will do more for their business than less.
Maybe that would be true if he would have left out the part about veggie burgers. Ew
March 23, 2017 1:48 pm at 1:48 pm #1242704apushatayidParticipantKashrus organizations are very much against retail establishments using their symbol in a back handed manner, implying that the agency certifies the establishment. Less than 2 months ago I called the OU about an ice cream shop that advertised in its window “our ice cream is ou certified” to confirm exactly what they certified and was told they have nothing to do with the store, which just might happen to sell ice cream with their certification. Recently that stores signage now indicates that while it is true they may sell ou certified ice cream, the OU is in no way connected to the store and does not certify it in any way. It is true kashrus symbols are are often seen as marketing symbols by sellers, but the kashrus agencies do not.
March 23, 2017 2:15 pm at 2:15 pm #1242711MenoParticipantHas anyone tried their chlorophyll juice?
It sounds like it would complement a veggie burger nicely.
