NYC: Massive Water Main Break Disrupts Subways

A water main more than 100 years old ruptured in lower Manhattan this morning.

Service on the nos. 1, 2 and 3 subway lines is disrupted, according to the MTA.

The break has also flooded the Chambers Street Station and forced the closure of West Broadway from Park Place to Murray Street.

Water to the 20-inch main was shut off at about 6 a.m., reported FOX 5 News reporter Tai Hernandez.

The no. 1 subway line is suspended in both directions between 14th St. to South Ferry Station.

The no. 2 line is running on the 5 line between Nevins Street and Grand Concourse in both directions.

The no. 3 line is suspended from 14th St. to Atlantic Ave. in both directions.

Officials on the scene tell FOX 5 News that subway service may be restored during the morning rush.

There is no water service for businesses and residents on West Broadway from Chambers Street to Murray Street, according to OEM officials on the scene.
