Public Advocate Bill de Blasio has called on Nissan to stop selling vehicles in Iran, just as the automaker prepares to unveil its “Taxi of Tomorrow” at the New York Auto Show. The City has awarded Nissan a $1 billion contract and the exclusive right to manufacture New York’s taxis. Nissan is one of 12 car companies on Public Advocate de Blasio’s Iran Watch List, which targets businesses that operate in Iran and undermine economic sanctions.
“You cannot do business with the people of New York City with one hand, and prop up the dangerous regime in Tehran with the other. For our billion dollars, taxpayers and taxi riders deserve a guarantee that Nissan will stop selling its vehicles to Iran,” said Public Advocate Bill de Blasio.
De Blasio launched the Iran Watch List in partnership with Iran180 and United Against Nuclear Iran. Visit the Watch List at www.IranWatchList.com.
