The Asbury Park Press reports: The Lakewood Board of Education has hired a private security firm to evaluate the township’s middle and high schools as the next step in responding to the recent brawl that involved up to 150 students.

The board agreed to bring in Care Security Systems, based in Muncie, N.Y., for three days, starting Monday, to analyze camera systems, security personnel and building accessibility as well as interview teachers and students, school officials announced. The alternate school for at-risk students also will be included in the evaluation.

At the same time the company is evaluating security at district schools, Lakewood police will conduct its own survey.

Patrolman Robert DeSimone, the department’s intelligence and technological officer, will tour the buildings starting Dec. 12 after he finishes homeland security training next week, Police Chief Robert Lawson said Friday.

DeSimone will focus on the schools’ policies on trespassers, emergency lockdown, handling of suspicious packages, student identification cards and student parking, the police chief said.
