Obama: Supreme Court Won’t Overturn Health Care Law

President Barack Obama voiced confidence Monday that the Supreme Court will uphold his health care law in his first public remarks on the issue since the three days of oral arguments last week.

Obama suggested that the Supreme Court would be guilty of “judicial activism” if it overturned the law, and stressed that he believed the justices would see the individual mandate as an integral part of the law.

“I’m confident that this well be upheld because it should be upheld,” Obama said at a joint news conference with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Mexican President Felipe Calderon.

“The reason is because in accordance with precedent out there, it’s constitutional,” Obama said. “That’s not just my opinion, by the way. That’s the opinion of legal experts across the ideological spectrum, including two very conservative appellate court justices who said this wasn’t even a close case.”

Acknowledging that he’s followed some commentary on the arguments, Obama said it was important “to remind people that this is not an abstract argument.

People’s lives are affected by the lack of availability of health care, the inaffordability of health care, their inability to get health care because of preexisting conditions.”

  1. If he has any knowledge of the Supeme Court’s decision at this point, it is probably an impeachable offense. Court deliberations are secret.

If he is just “BSing” (slang reference to what male cattle in fields), there’s no hiddush in what he says.

  2. Hope he is right. The individual mandate makes a whole lot of sense and the Federal Government has a right to legislate and implement it under the powers of the commerce clause. This idea was first championed by the Heritage Foundation the premiere right wing think tank. Even Mitt Romney implemented it albeit on a State Level.

  3. separation of powers perhaps? or make it a constitutional amendment. i bet the justices want revenge this is a perfect opportunity

  4. Crazy, you are a deliberate liar as well as crazy. The commerce clause lets Congress regulate interstate and international commerce. You know very well that it does not authorise Congress to force people to engage in commerce in the first place.
