12:55 IL: Sirens first were heard in Ashkelon, then Gan Yavne, Gadera and other southern areas. Not being a rare event, residents headed for safe rooms believing there were rocket attacks from Gaza.
Sirens were also being reported in northern border and other communities. People in the north began heading for bomb shelters as well. A short time later it became apparent that the sirens were not signaling incoming missiles Baruch Hashem, but a system malfunction.
Police and the IDF are investigating.

not sure regarding this line:
“were not signaling incoming missiles Baruch Hashem, but a system malfunction.”
I think that Boruch HaShem is misplaced. perhaps it would have been better that it was signalling a real threat — now every time the siren goes off people may think twice – is it a false alarm? and with only seconds to react in some places this can mean a difference of life and death- perhaps the gov’t should have just said that it was in response to a real threat.
