(Details below) 1:00PM EST: A major train crash has just been reported in the “South Side” of Chicago – at 48th and Shields. Initial reports are of close to 150 people on board the train – with reports of people trapped. A major triage center has just been established. The crash appears to be between an Amtrak train & a freight train.
UPDATE 2:00PM EST: Six people were taken to the hospital in critical to serious condition & about a dozen suffered lesser injuries.
The Amtrak train, No. 371 from Grand Rapids, Mich., struck the rear of the parked freight train.
