The FDNY does about 50 full-scale emergency drills in major landmarks throughout the city every year. Friday night first responders staged a drill at Yankee Stadium complete with hundreds of participants.

With sirens blaring and firefighters rushing in and people on stretchers, the scene sure did look like disaster struck Yankee Stadium. Although it was all just a fire drill, many neighbors thought it was the real thing.

More than one hundred fire fighters participated. A hundred volunteer actors pretended to be fans. Many of them wore extensive makeup in order to simulate injuries such as burns.

Firefighters say exercises such as this one are invaluable learning tools that can save lives in the long run.

The FDNY also cares about Mets fans. The department plans on holding another drill there as well.
