Man Arrested With Homemade Fireworks In Backpack At Philadelphia Airport

A 29-year-old man was arrested at Philadelphia International Airport around 7 a.m.

The man allegedly tried to go through the security gate with what TSA officials initially called a homemade bomb.

Sources tell FOX 29’s Dave Schratwieser that the man from Dallas, Pa., was on his way to San Francisco when he was stopped by security. The devices were apparently two small homemade fireworks.

The bomb squad, which had just reported to work for the day, checked the bag and removed the items.

The man apparently indicated to authorities that he had made the homemade fireworks previously and used the bag to transport them. He thought he had removed them all from the bag before packing for his trip but apparently forgot two of them, Schratwieser reported, according to sources.

We’re told there was no interruption to flights, passengers were re-routed to another gate and the checkpoint was stopped for 15 minutes.
