Pesach in Israel: 70 Million Eggs – 3,000 Tons of Fish

The average Israeli consumes 20 eggs monthly along with 800 grams of fish. During Nissan these numbers increase to 22 eggs and 1.2kg of fish, consumer council officials report. The report adds that during Pesach, Israelis will consume 70 millions eggs, with the latter composed of 98% regular eggs and 2% fresh range and organic.

1.8 billion eggs are delivered to the marketplace annually, produced in 3,000 farms, most located in the north. Israel ranks fourth in the international community in per capita egg consumption behind Japan, France and the United States.

Fish consumption on the other hand is significantly lower per capita with residents in Mediterranean areas using 20-40kg per person annually. Japan boasts 60kg per capita annually, while in Israel, the annual figure is 10kg.
